Why Modesto Is a Strong Fit for Solar
Few places in California run their air conditioning harder than the Central Valley. Modesto summers are long and hot, and cooling a home through July and August drives some of the highest bills of the year. A well-sized solar system turns that peak sunshine into power, and with the right design your roof can offset a large share of what you would otherwise buy from MID.
Modesto Still Has Real Net Metering, Thanks to MID
Here is Modesto's big advantage. Your power comes from MID, the Modesto Irrigation District, not PG&E. While most of California moved to NEM 3.0, which pays very little for the energy you export, MID still offers traditional net metering. For Modesto homeowners that means the credit you earn for sending power back to the grid is far more favorable than what PG&E customers get, which improves your payback and simplifies the math.
MID does not offer its own solar rebate, so your savings come from strong net metering and offsetting your usage rather than upfront incentives. We design your system around MID's rules and handle the interconnection with them directly. See our NEM 3.0 guide to understand what most of California now deals with, and why Modesto's MID net metering is a real edge.

FAQs
Who is my utility in Modesto, and does net metering still exist?
Most Modesto homes are served by MID, the Modesto Irrigation District, which still offers traditional net metering rather than NEM 3.0. That is good news, because you earn a better credit for exported power than most of California now gets.
How much do solar panels cost in Modesto?
It depends on your home's size, your energy use, and whether you add a battery. We design a system around your actual MID usage and give you a clear, itemized quote for free.
Is solar worth it in Modesto?
For many homes, yes. Between the strong Central Valley sunshine, high summer cooling bills, and MID's net metering, Modesto has one of the better payback pictures in the region.
Does MID offer a solar rebate?
MID does not currently offer its own solar rebate, so your savings come from net metering and offsetting your usage. We will walk you through the full picture, including any state or federal programs that apply.
